Walled Lake Central’s Brendan Grimes and Eric McFarland, Jr. etched their names in program history on Thursday night in the Vikings’ season opening win over Waterford Kettering, 46-29.

McFarland, who was named The D Zone’s Week 1 Player of the Week, caught 19 passes for 200 yards and scored four total touchdowns. His 19 receptions set a new school record and ties him with Stockbridge’s Kolby Canfield (10/21/16) for second all-time in the state of Michigan for receptions in a single game. His 200 yards are also the most in a single game in school history.

Grimes finished the night with 36 completions for 418 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The senior quarterback broke Michael B. Gluski’s single game passing yards record of 314 yards, which was set back in 1992. Grimes also set a new mark for single game passing attempts with 57.

Walled Lake Central heads to South Lyon East this Friday looking to improve to 2-0. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
